Helen Mort was born in Sheffield and now lives in Cambridge. She writes poetry and drama, and teaches for the Open University. Her poetry is published by tall-lighthouse press and she received an Eric Gregory Award from The Society of Authors in 2007, and won the Manchester Young Writer prize in 2008.
Helen's short story is a night-time encounter with the ghosts of worked out mines, smoky pubs and deserted highways. A sinister landlord invites you in from the cold for a pint and some strange tales, all drawn from South Yorkshire and Derbyshire legend.
